PJC Insurance: Trucking and a Whole Lot More
While PJC Insurance has always been synonymous with truck insurance, it is actually a full-service
agency offering all personal lines, commercial, life and health, and several “niche market” lines of
coverage, including coverage for financial institutions and pest control operators.
The agency was established in 1968 and since 2001, Bobby Seltz has been the principle owner
and Raylene Appleby has been an owner and CEO. Its principal place of business continues to be
its familiar four-story office complex located at I-44 and Highway 13 in Springfield. In October 2005, a
branch office was opened at the Fountain Plaza in Nixa to serve clients in Christian County.
Expansion of the Commercial and Personal Lines will also occurs a result of the pending purchase
of another Springfield agency, which will close in January 2007.
Under the leadership of Appleby and her management team, PJC has dramatically increased
sales in all departments. The Commercial Department, managed by Bob Meek, has seen
extraordinary growth, particularly in the area of insurance for financial institutions. PJC is also the
largest agency representing Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company and is a member of its
President's Club.
PJC continues to be one of the two largest independent truck insurance agencies in the State of
Missouri. PJC has earned numerous agent awards and distinctions with several companies,
including Agent of the Year from Sentry Insurance.

“The Transportation Department at PJC has been at the industry forefront for more than two
decades,” according to Lance Smith, Transportation Department Manager.
The Personal Lines Department established in 2003 to offer home, auto, and other personal lines
has been experiencing successful growth and Appleby is particularly pleased at the new growth in
northern Christian county resulting from the establishment of the Nixa office.
The Corporate Health Department established in March 2006 now provides a wide range of life and
health products for businesses and individuals. Co manager of the Corporate Health Department, Ted
Andrews says, “We are very excited about our new programs which are now allowing us to provide low cost
health insurance to the large number of those in Southwest Missouri who do not have health care
coverage for themselves and their families.”
As a co-founder and owner, and part of the management
team, Steve Chappell points out some things have not changed: “PJC prides itself on long term
relationships with customers and companies many of which span more than two decades. The
agency maintains a user-friendly web site to serve its clients as well.
Appleby concludes: “We take great pride in our PJC family, which includes our valued employees
and customers. PJC is still about trucking and a whole lot more!
